Steve Foster is the founder of Special Risks and an ex-professional footballer with a career spanning over 20 years.
Hi I’m Claire, I was born in Brighton and love living by the sea! I’ve worked at Special Risks for over 20 year and my passion comes from growing and developing our business year by year. I love what I do and our fantastic team! I’m a mum to 2 football mad boys, so I literally live and breathe football.
Hi my name is Lily, I live in Brighton and have worked for Special Risks as an Insurance administrator for the last 5 years. I love working for a small family run business, as we are not just colleagues but friends too. I am a mum of two fur children, in my spare time I love to travel and enjoy trying new food spots with my boyfriend.
Hi my name is Leanna, I was born and raised in Brighton and I’ve been an Insurance Administrator at Special Risks for 10 years, I love working for Special Risks as we are just like a little family. I am married and we have two daughters who keep us very busy and we love going on little adventures with them.

We specialise in providing niche Career Ending Injury Insurance to Professional Footballers throughout Europe, our Pro-Secure Insurance Policies are underwritten by Lloyds of London, the world’s leading market for specialist insurance.
Special Risks have an exclusive contract with the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) which provides a Pro-Secure Personal Accident Insurance Policy for every professional footballer in England and Wales (approx. 4000)
Special Risks was founded by Steve Foster who had a career as a professional footballer, spanning over 20 years, he played over 650 matches at Brighton & Hove Albion, Luton, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Oxford and was part of the England Squad in the 1982 World Cup held in Spain.
We understand football, we are privately owned company who live and breath football.
We provide Personal Accident Insurance for individual footballers, this covers players against Permanent Total Disablement (career ending injury). The cover provided is 24 hours a day and on a worldwide basis. Each quotation is calculated on an individual basis, and is underwritten by Axis Managing Agency Ltd, at Lloyds of London. If a player’s career ends through injury they will receive a tax free lump sum, subject to policy terms and conditions.
Our European company, Special Risks Europe, based in Germany, provides career ending injury insurance and Temporary Total Disablement insurance to over 350 players in the Bundesliga. We have established markets to offer insurance to players in Europe.
We also provide insurance for individual footballers against Temporary Total Disablement, for temporary loss of wages for players or clubs for example for a player who is injured and unable to play for 6 months.
